Playing for MI Cape Town (MICT), Potgieter delivered an outstanding performance, helping his team secure a massive 97-run victory over defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape. This success was partly thanks to the trust shown by his captain, Rashid Khan, who gave him the ball. Potgieter’s seam bowling earned him an incredible five-wicket haul.
Potgieter expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “The captain threw me the ball tonight, and I was extremely happy. It turned out perfectly.” Despite being surrounded by experienced bowlers like Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, and Rashid Khan, Potgieter seized the moment to shine on the big stage.

In the second half, Potgieter was handed the ball for the first time in his SA20 career, despite having played 12 matches across three seasons. His remarkable spell of 5 wickets for 10 runs in just three overs was instrumental in dismantling the Sunrisers’ batting lineup.

Before this match, Potgieter had taken 34 wickets in 64 T20 games, but he had never bowled for MICT. Reflecting on his achievement, he said, “I couldn’t ask for a better day for it. I just tried to hit the top of the stumps, and fortunately, it worked out perfectly.“
