The West Indies cricket team has unveiled its squad for the much-anticipated two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting January 16, 2025, in Karachi. This tour marks West Indies’ first Test series on Pakistani soil in over 18 years, with the last series held in 2006.

The Test squad features two significant inclusions: batter Amir Jangoo, who receives his maiden call-up, and Gudakesh Motie, who returns after missing the previous series. Notably, Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph make way due to injury and external commitments, respectively.

Amir Jangoo: A Rising Star in West Indies Cricket

Amir Jangoo, a prolific batter from Trinidad & Tobago, has been rewarded for his remarkable domestic performances. He scored 500 runs in five matches during the 2023-24 regional four-day competition, averaging an impressive 63.50, with two centuries and a fifty.

Jangoo recently showcased his talent on the international stage by smashing a century on his ODI debut against Bangladesh, helping West Indies secure one of their highest chases in the format. His selection emphasizes his competency against spin, a critical factor for the Pakistan series.

Coach’s Endorsement

West Indies head coach Andre Coley lauded Jangoo’s consistency and adaptability. He noted that the focus for the team is to build on 2024’s lessons and translate them into success in 2025.

Gudakesh Motie: A Spin Specialist Returns

Gudakesh Motie, the left-arm spinner, is set to lead the spin-bowling contingent. He missed the Bangladesh series due to his participation in the inaugural Global Super League in Providence.

Motie’s inclusion bolsters a spin unit featuring Kevin Sinclair and Jomel Warrican. These spinners will play a pivotal role in Pakistani conditions, which are known to favor turn and bounce.

The first Test will be held in Karachi from January 16-20, 2025.
The second Test will follow in Multan from January 24-28, 2025.
